"Hmm... I'm thinking of getting LASIK, but I wonder if there are any good places to go."
"I should search online and go to the places recommended by people!"
Have you had thoughts like these?
While it's good to consider choosing an eye clinic based on recommendations from others found on the internet...
The truth is, the individuals who wrote those reviews are not doctors, so they may not know the detailed aspects of the surgery.
Therefore, occasionally, those of you who seek information may end up accepting incorrect information.
To prevent such unfortunate incidents, as a current ophthalmologist, I would like to provide assistance on "Two Methods for Choosing a LASIK Surgery Clinic" ^^
Oh, by the way, I am a leading ophthalmologist and the director of an eye clinic located in Gangnam. (Ophthalmologists account for only 0.04% of doctors.)
I also have a history of serving as a clinical professor at 'Catholic University of Korea St. Mary's Hospital,' which is recognized as a top institution in the field of ophthalmology. So, I hope you can trust and read this.
There are so many things I would like to share with you that even a two-night, three-day article wouldn't be enough. However, I don't want to take up too much of your time, so I'll only mention two things ^^
First, look for LASIK surgery clinics that offer a variety of procedures.
(Here, the mentioned variety of procedures includes LASIK, LASEK, SMILE, and Clear LASIK, among others.)
Due to its minimal pain and fast recovery, many people express interest in LASIK surgery.
However, LASIK surgery involves more corneal reshaping than LASEK, so it may not be suitable for individuals with naturally thin corneas.
Shall we figure it out?
If 10 people come to our clinic for vision correction surgery, how many of them would be eligible for LASIK?
8 people? 5 people?
No. Only about 1 person.
Of course, it doesn't mean that all 9 of the remaining individuals are ineligible for LASIK due to naturally thin corneas.
Even if the corneas are thick, if there is severe myopia or astigmatism, more corneal reshaping would be required compared to regular patients.
Therefore, LASIK may not be suitable for individuals with significantly poor vision.
As a result, even if you desire LASIK, you may ultimately need to consider LASEK, lens implantation, or other alternatives.
That's why I want to emphasize the importance of seeking a LASIK surgery clinic that has experience and success not only with LASIK but also with LASEK, SMILE LASIK, lens implantation, and various other procedures.
Ultimately, it's crucial for you to receive the most appropriate surgery, which will likely minimize the chances of regret in the long run.
Secondly, check if the LASIK surgery clinic offers the possibility of enhancement surgery.
Why am I mentioning this?
Did you know that even after undergoing surgery, there is a possibility of achieving less-than-desired visual acuity or developing irregular astigmatism, causing blurred vision?
Furthermore, various side effects such as corneal haze, glare, dry eyes, and vision regression can occur.
(That's why unfortunately, many people end up considering enhancement surgery more than expected.)
Of course, according to the medical community, the risk of severe side effects is relatively low, around 2-3% compared to other surgeries.
However, since it is unpredictable when such risks may manifest for individuals, the possibility of enhancement surgery remains open at any time.
(It also depends on how well the patient manages their post-operative care.)
In such cases, if you receive the initial surgery from a clinic that offers the possibility of enhancement surgery,
the advantage is that the information stored from the previous surgery in the same clinic can be utilized, leading to the omission of unnecessary procedures. (It can also reduce the cost of re-evaluation!)
If you search on the internet, you will find that there are actually not as many eye clinics with enhancement surgery centers as you might think.
As a result, there are many patients who still wish to undergo enhancement surgery but are unable to find a suitable center, which is a unfortunate situation.
I have received numerous inquiries from patients who wanted to know if enhancement surgery is possible and have seen many comments on my blog regarding this matter. Due to the sheer number of these individuals, it saddened me that they couldn't easily find a place for treatment. That's why I personally established a separate enhancement surgery center.
Of course, I am not asking you to visit our center specifically.
Since there are many individuals who undergo LASIK and later consider enhancement surgery, I wanted to advise you to also consider the availability of enhancement surgery centers.
To those of you who have been researching LASIK surgery clinics, I have provided two pieces of advice that could be helpful from a doctor's perspective.
Occasionally, people may wonder why someone like me is writing such posts. Therefore, I would like to share a piece of writing that describes who I am, including my background and credentials.
If you're curious, feel free to take a look. ^^
You're welcome! If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Thank you, and I hope you find the information helpful.
