"Why are you looking for 2D LASIK?"
If I were to ask patients this question, they might respond
"Because it's painless."
"Because the recovery is quick!"
While it is true that 2D LASIK offers faster recovery and significantly reduces pain, it saddens me a little to see people opting for this procedure solely for those reasons.
In this article, I would like to share my honest thoughts about 2D LASIK and also discuss the approach I take to alleviate my patients' pain.
If there are individuals who are afraid of LASIK due to pain, I hope you will read this article to the end.
Before diving in, let me briefly introduce myself.
I am a specialist in ophthalmology and the head ophthalmologist at an eye clinic located in Gangnam, where I have performed thousands of LASIK surgeries.
I also run a YouTube channel called "Eye Sister" where I provide clear explanations about eye-related information that many people often misunderstand.
Feel free to drop by and check it out when you have time.
This is my channel ^_^
In reality, I do not unconditionally recommend 2D LASIK to individuals who are considering the procedure.
2D LASIK utilizes a technique where the width of corneal ablation, which is the removal of corneal tissue, is reduced compared to traditional LASIK methods, in order to minimize pain. (Refer to the image below)
As the cutting range is reduced,
The range of healing is reduced and the pain is reduced.
This is because there are two main problems that can occur when reducing the width.
First, you may experience night light blur.
Our pupil size is larger at night than during the day.
When the pupil is enlarged, the relatively unsharpened part causes a phenomenon in which light is scattered at night.
Second, the phenomenon of poor eyesight will appear quickly.
A decrease in visual acuity despite surgery is called myopic regression.
In fact, myopia regression will come even if you receive the existing Lasek.
However, if you receive 2-day sex, there is a feature that accelerates a little faster.
This is for people whose eyes haven't grown yet or for genetic reasons, so it's unavoidable even if the surgery goes well.
To avoid the above two side effects,
Prior to surgery, the surgeon must carefully consider how narrow or wide the ablation should be, considering the size of the patient's pupil and the degree of regression.
This sounds really simple in words, but I think finding the right level actually requires the surgeon to have quite a bit of experience.
(If the cutting area is widened, the pain is severe, and if the cut is reduced, the possibility of side effects increases.)
So, if you think that you must get 2-day Lasek, it would be a good way to go to a place that has a lot of surgical experience.
After thinking about it for a while, I'm guessing that the reason you're looking for 2-Dayrasek is because of your fear of pain.
I would like to help these people a little bit, so I will tell you about the 'know-how to reduce pain' that I am using for patients.
(I didn't expect to share my own know-how so easily..^^) What I use together during surgery is 'inflammation medicine'.
As someone who has had LASIK, I know how painful it can be.
When I thought about the cause of the pain, I thought it might be the inflammation that occurs when the cornea is shaved.
So, I often put inflammatory drugs before/during/after when patients had surgery.
In fact, the people who underwent surgery on me said a lot, 'It doesn't hurt more than I thought, sir?'..^^
In addition, there are a few other know-how to reduce pain, so I will attach what I have written well before, in case the article will be long.
For those who are afraid of pain, I hope you will read it once ^^
