hello? This is Kim Seon-young, the representative director of Healing Ophthalmology.
I have a history of serving as a clinical professor at 'Catholic St. Mary's University Hospital', which is called the top in the field of ophthalmology after obtaining the qualification of an ophthalmologist.
'They say Lasik hurts so much...
Have you ever heard of Painless Lasik? I was told it was a painless operation.
How is this surgery?
Perhaps there are people who want to receive painless Lasek because they are afraid of Lasek pain.
I know you are afraid of pain, but I know that most hospitals do not use the painless LASIK method these days.
Painless 'LASIK' was performed by freezing the cornea during surgery.
It was called 'painless' because it paralyzed the nerves of the cornea momentarily and did not feel any pain during the corneal recovery process.
So, why is surgery with such advantages not being used these days?
This painless Lasek had two major problems.
First, when the cornea is frozen during surgery, the corneal surface becomes jagged and swollen.
As a result, the laser could not cut the cornea flat, resulting in a bumpy result.
As a result, even if vision is restored, there are side effects that come out lower than the target vision.
Second, there is a disadvantage that the cornea does not heal well.
As the cornea froze, the nerves were paralyzed, and recovery was very slow.
It was relatively painless, but it took quite a while for my vision to recover.
Therefore, as a result of freezing the cornea, the pain is less as a result, but it is difficult to judge that it is a treatment that is truly helpful to the patient because it has a fatal disadvantage that the vision is not properly corrected.
In case you felt a bit discouraged while undergoing pain-free LASIK, I would like to hear some good news for you.
Patients who have actually had the surgery say that it was less painful than I thought.
Is this why?
In my case, I use a method that reduces pain by slightly tingling the cornea with cold water rather than completely freezing the cornea.
(So far, it actually beats the methods I use a lot elsewhere)
However, it is slightly unreasonable to reduce pain with only one of these.
The pain may go away on the same day, but after a day or two, the pain becomes excruciating.
(This is where the story on the Internet that the pain of Lasek only lasts from the 3rd day comes from)
From now on, it's actually my know-how haha
In my case, I often put inflammatory drugs before/during/after surgery.
If you ponder the cause of the pain, it's likely an inflammation that occurred when the cornea was shaved. Then, if you use inflammatory drugs to relieve this inflammation, the pain will also subside.
Perhaps this is why patients who have undergone surgery on me always say, 'I don't know why everyone said they were sick'.
(There are so many other ways to reduce pain, but I will tell you separately below.)
Let's summarize the last part we talked about today!
1. Painless LASIK is not used much due to the high risk of side effects, so it has now disappeared!
2. However, there are so many ways to reduce pain even in regular LASIK surgery!
In addition to the anti-inflammatory drugs mentioned earlier, there are additional ways to reduce pain, but I think the article will be too long, so I leave the previous article.
If you are afraid of pain, please read it once ^^
