LASIK in Korea cost is the first thing almost everyone asks me. And a clinic that answers it with a single number, before measuring anything, is doing something other than medicine. Here is what that number is actually made of.
Before comparing two totals, line up what each one includes. Exam, drops, follow-ups, enhancement terms. If those differ, the two numbers are not comparable at all.
A quote has three parts
The exam. Corneal thickness, topography, tear film, pupil size in the dark, dilated retinal check. Doing this thoroughly is what makes the candidacy decision reliable. Skipping steps makes a quote cheaper and the decision worse.
The procedure. The equipment and the complexity of the design. A standard ablation profile and a custom profile that maps your higher-order aberrations are not the same amount of work.
The aftercare. Drops, the next-day check, the pre-flight check. This is where clinics differ most, and where quotes quietly diverge.
When comparing against a quote from home, put all three on both sides before you subtract.
What moves the number

None of these are add-ons. They are the condition your eyes arrived in — which is exactly why I do not quote before measuring.
No foreigner pricing
International patients pay what Korean patients pay. The published price list applies to everyone, and there is no separate interpreter fee.
This is worth confirming wherever you go. Ask directly, and ask for it in writing. A clinic that cannot put its pricing policy in writing is telling you something.
The two costs no quote contains
Flights and accommodation. Three nights minimum, four comfortable — a week if the exam points to surface ablation. The day-by-day breakdown explains which scenario applies.
Follow-ups at home. Your one-week, one-month and three-month checks happen with an ophthalmologist where you live. That is a real cost of operating abroad, and it belongs in the comparison even though nobody invoices you for it here.
Add both and you have the true total. Comparing a Korean surgical fee against a Western quote that bundles aftercare is how people reach a conclusion that is too good to be accurate. Whether LASIK is genuinely cheaper in Korea works through that arithmetic.
Five questions to ask about any quote
- Is the full pre-operative exam included, or billed separately?
- Are post-operative drops included? More variation here than you would expect.
- How many follow-ups are covered — only the next day, or the pre-flight check too?
- What are the enhancement terms if the prescription regresses? Get the conditions, not a reassurance.
- Was the procedure chosen after the exam? If a procedure and a price were set before any measurement, the order is backwards.
Ask the same five everywhere, put the answers side by side, and the cheapest quote usually stops looking cheapest.

When a low price is fine
A low number is not automatically a warning. Costs genuinely are lower here — facility costs, staffing, and a domestic market with real competition.
What matters is whether the difference comes from the structure of the market or from something removed from your care. Those look identical on a price list and feel very different in the third month after surgery.

Sometimes it is the procedure: a standard ablation profile and one customised to your corneal aberrations are not the same work. A low price is not a problem as long as you know what was removed to get there.
Can the price change after I agree to it?
Not once you have agreed. What can happen is that the exam rules out the procedure you assumed and we quote a different one — that conversation happens before anything is scheduled, not after surgery has started.
