Planning a Korea Clear LASIK recovery program and worried the days you have off won't cover it before your flight home? Read this before you book the return leg. You'll know what decides the cost, what reviews get right and wrong, which methods recover differently, and how many days to plan, so you can match the surgery to your leave and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Sun-young, Medical Director at Healing Eye Clinic in Gangnam, and my field is the cornea, glaucoma and cataract. For Clear SMILE LASIK, one dedicated doctor stays with you from exam to aftercare, English interpreters are on site, and the clinic is a minute's walk from Sinnonhyeon Station.
I wrote this because people tend to plan the trip around the operation, when the harder planning question is what happens after they land back home.
The short version: plan around a sequence. If your exam allows it, the exam, surgery and next-day check-up fit into two days, most daily routines return within about a week, and vision and cornea enter a stable phase at about a month.
If your leave is already fixed, send a photo of your latest prescription and your leave dates on WhatsApp, and ask whether those days leave enough room.
Is there a set recovery program for Clear LASIK?
Not under that name. On our site, the phrase "recovery-care program" belongs to Premium LASEK, where we describe 3–5 days of recovery care. What search engines call Clear LASIK appears on our pages as Clear SMILE LASIK, and I've untangled what each Clear SMILE name means in a separate post.
For this surgery, the plan is a series of stages. A thin, lens-shaped piece of tissue called a lenticule is removed through one small incision, and the visit takes about 10 minutes for both eyes. The stages after that are what you're really booking your flights around.
The US Food and Drug Administration tells LASIK patients to expect a first visit 24 to 48 hours after surgery and further visits at regular intervals for at least six months. That guidance was written for LASIK, yet it makes a useful point for any Korea Clear LASIK recovery program: your recovery continues long after the airport. A plan that stops at the check-up in Seoul is missing its second half.
The first month, stage by stage
In short, this is the sequence we publish for Clear SMILE LASIK. The right-hand column is my planning advice for someone flying in, and your own surgeon's instructions come first.
| When | What's typical | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Surgery day | Vision starts recovering right away; some foreign-body feeling or light sensitivity is normal | Go back to your room and rest your eyes |
| Day 1 | First check-up; normal indoor activities are fine | Book your flight for after this visit |
| Days 2–3 | Vision is mostly stable; light outings are fine | Use spare days for easy walks, sunglasses on |
| Week 1 | Most daily routines are back | Keep any drops on your carry-on |
| Month 1 | Vision and cornea enter a stable phase | See an eye doctor at home |
For more detail on activities, I've written about what you can do each day during LASIK recovery in Korea.
How many days should I plan in Seoul?
The tightest version is two days: exam in the morning, surgery in the afternoon, check-up the next day. Exam results can change that plan, so for a more relaxed trip we suggest 2–3 days and fit the exact schedule to your flights in a consultation.
The calendar matters as much as the count. We're open Monday to Thursday 10:00–18:30, Friday until 21:00 and Saturday 10:00–14:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and we're closed Sundays and holidays. A next-day check-up can't fall on a Sunday, which rules out a simple Saturday surgery. The clinic is also about 70 minutes from Incheon Airport, so a morning exam on your landing day only works with a very early arrival.
Say you land on a Wednesday evening. A Thursday exam and surgery puts your check-up on Friday, and a flight on Saturday gives you one spare day in case the exam changes anything. Before you pay for tickets, ask how long you should stay out of contact lenses beforehand, because that date is confirmed at consultation and it can move your whole plan.
Methods that change your recovery plan
We publish a different recovery rhythm for each method, so the exam result can change your trip as well as your surgery. Clear SMILE LASIK and Personal Custom LASIK are both listed as back to daily life in 1–2 days. Premium LASEK suits thin corneas and active lifestyles, but it needs those 3–5 days of recovery care, so it asks for a longer stay.
ICL leaves the corneal tissue in place, and it can come up with very high prescriptions. It is an operation inside the eye, and the FDA lists risks that include raised eye pressure and cataract. If you've seen a newer laser name online, my post on SMILE Pro and what stays the same underneath covers that question.
Over 40 and starting to struggle up close? That's a separate conversation, and presbyopia options by age may be the more useful read. If a relative who reads Korean is helping you decide, they can look at our Korean-language Clear LASIK page.
What reviews get right, and wrong, about recovery
Three claims come up again and again in public reviews and forum threads, and they hold up to different degrees.
"I was back to normal the next day" is partly true. Indoor activity usually is fine by then, but stable vision and a settled cornea come later, and long screen days may feel harder at first. "Recovery is over in two days" is the claim I'd correct most firmly, because two days is the shortest schedule for the visits. Your eyes keep healing after that.
"This type causes less dry eye" is fair within limits. Compared with standard LASIK, post-op dryness is described as relatively less likely, and that still leaves room for dryness to happen to you.
What if something feels wrong after I fly home?
Put simply, this is the question to settle before you leave Seoul. Ask who to message from your country, which records to take with you, and how our lifetime surgical responsibility program applies once you're abroad; request its terms directly, since I won't summarize them here. The CDC's advice to medical travelers points the same way: arrange follow-up at home in advance and keep copies of your records.
Risks and side effects to know
Common reactions in the early days include a foreign-body feeling, light sensitivity and dryness, and glare or halos at night can also appear. For many people these ease over the following weeks, though the pace differs from person to person.
As general medicine, surgery is usually postponed or reconsidered if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if your prescription is still changing, or if you have progressing keratoconus or severe dry eye. Thin or irregular corneas and very high myopia are reasons to compare LASEK or ICL. If any of these applies, I'll say so plainly and explain the alternatives.
Once you're home, increasing pain, a drop in vision, marked redness or discharge need a same-day visit to a local ophthalmologist, with your surgical records in hand. If your vision declines or becomes uncomfortable much later, we also run a dedicated LASIK/LASEK revision center.
If follow-up is your biggest doubt, tell us on WhatsApp which country you'll be in and ask how check-ins would work from there.
What decides the cost of the trip?
The figure for your case comes from a handful of things, and the exact cost is confirmed in a 1:1 consultation after a detailed exam.
- The method your exam points to. Clear SMILE LASIK, the presbyopic version, LASEK and ICL are separate lines on our price list.
- The pre-op exam. For Clear SMILE LASIK, the detailed exam is charged separately.
- Your days in Seoul. More spare days mean more nights of lodging. Our partner hotel is O'Cloud Hotel in Seocho-gu, if you want a starting point.
- Follow-up at home. Any visit to your own eye doctor is billed by that practice, so ask them before you travel.
Local and international patients pay the same prices. You can read more about us on our English site, and for your own figure, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case and name the method you're curious about.

The easiest first message
One photo of your prescription is enough to start, along with the one question you most want answered, such as which day you could book your flight home. When you do come in, I'll go through your exam data with you and an interpreter, and recommend the method that fits your eyes and your life.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fly home the day after Clear SMILE LASIK?
If your exam allows it, the exam, surgery and next-day check-up fit into two days, so plan any departure for after that check-up. Exam results can change the plan, so keep your ticket flexible or add a spare day.
Do I need to speak Korean at my recovery visits?
No. Japanese, Traditional Chinese and English interpreters are on site, and everything from the exam and surgery to aftercare is explained in your language.
When can I go back to work after Clear LASIK in Seoul?
We list a return to daily life in 1–2 days, with most routines back by about week 1. Screen-heavy work may feel tiring at first, so follow your surgeon's advice and avoid a demanding first day back if you can.
How long should I stop wearing contact lenses before I travel?
Contact lenses can change the shape of the cornea, so the FDA advises stopping them before the baseline exam. The number of days is confirmed at consultation, so ask before you fix your dates.
Where do people stay during the recovery days?
Our partner hotel is O'Cloud Hotel in Seocho-gu, and you can also stay elsewhere. The clinic is at 470 Gangnam-daero, a minute's walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, so somewhere with an easy trip to that station helps on check-up day.
