I'm Dr. Kim Sun-young, medical director of Healing Eye Clinic in Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam, Seoul. I was a clinical professor of cornea and cataract surgery at a university hospital, and every week I see patients from abroad, many of them in their 40s and 50s, with an English interpreter in the room from the first test onwards.
The message usually comes with two numbers that don't seem to match: "Dr. Kim, one page says presbyopia surgery is about two million won. Another says that's per eye, for the lens alone. Which is it?"
If you're searching presbyopia surgery cost korea, you've probably hit the same confusion. That's because "presbyopia surgery" covers two very different routes, priced in different ways.
So here's my honest answer first: your age doesn't choose the route — the state of your natural lens does. And once the route is right, the price follows.
Presbyopia surgery cost in Korea: why there are two sets of numbers
There's a laser route and a lens route. I explain them in three steps.
1. Your natural lens decides the route
If your natural lens is still clear, the laser route is usually the first to consider. It reshapes the cornea and leaves the lens alone.
If a cataract is starting, the lens route makes more sense. Cataract surgery replaces that lens anyway, so we choose a replacement that also helps reading. Doing laser now and cataract surgery a few years later means paying twice for your near vision.
2. The laser route is priced for both eyes
Presbyopic LASIK or LASEK is ₩2,290,000 for both eyes (list ₩2,490,000). Presbyopic Clear LASIK is ₩3,000,000 for both eyes (list ₩3,200,000).
This route is typically considered in your 40s and 50s. Recovery follows the laser you have: a quick return to daily life with LASIK, a slower first week with LASEK.
3. The lens route is priced per eye
Lens surgery is listed per eye, lens by lens. A monofocal lens is ₩1,250,000 per eye; premium lenses that address reading vision cost more, and for both eyes you double the figure.
It's like buying glasses: the frame is one price, but the lenses you choose decide most of the bill.
Clear natural lens: think laser, priced for both eyes. Cataract starting: think lens surgery, priced per eye. Compare totals only after the exam tells you which route your eyes are on.

Why the person who measures your lens should choose your route
At our clinic, the doctor who examines you is the doctor who operates and the doctor who sees you after surgery. The route is chosen by the person who looked at your natural lens, not by a price you saw online.
What you can verify: international patients pay the same price as Korean patients, we hold 4.8 stars from 154 Google reviews, and I'm a full member of ESCRS, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. I give you these to check, not to impress.
So which route, and what does it cost?
A rough guide. Your exam makes the final call.

|---|---|---|
| Presbyopic LASIK / LASEK | ₩2,290,000 (both eyes) | 40s–50s, clear natural lens |

Side effects, and who I'd steer away
Both routes involve trade-offs I want you to hear first.
- Laser route: temporary dryness, night glare and halos, and near vision that may change as the eye keeps ageing. A future cataract isn't prevented.
- Lens route: with multifocal lenses, some people notice night halos or reduced contrast and need time to adapt. Infection and after-cataract are uncommon but possible.
- Both: you may still reach for reading glasses for fine print. Results vary between people.
I'd steer away from multifocal lenses if you drive at night for work, or have macular, optic-nerve or corneal conditions that limit the benefit. The Korean head office explains the laser route on its presbyopic LASIK page.
Practical notes for the trip
- Laser route: at least three nights for presbyopic LASIK, about a week for LASEK.
- Lens route: exam, surgery and next-day check per eye; both eyes are usually spaced apart, so plan longer.
- A changeable flight: the exam can switch the route.
- We're one minute from Sinnonhyeon Station, about 70 minutes from Incheon Airport.
- After you fly home, your follow-up checks can be done locally with the written record we give you.
Every option, not only cost, is laid out in presbyopia correction surgery options.
Don't compare prices yet — find out your route
A price for both eyes and a price per eye are answers to different questions. Make sure you're comparing the same route.
It doesn't have to be our clinic. But choose one that looks at your natural lens before quoting you, and tells you which route you're on.
Send your age, current glasses prescription and what bothers you most on WhatsApp. If surgery isn't the right step yet, I'll tell you plainly.
I hope to see you in Seoul.

Frequently asked questions
How much does presbyopia surgery cost in Korea?
At our clinic, presbyopic LASIK or LASEK is ₩2,290,000 for both eyes and presbyopic Clear LASIK is ₩3,000,000. Lens surgery is priced per eye by lens, from ₩1,250,000 for a monofocal lens upwards. The full exam is ₩150,000.
Is laser or lens surgery better for presbyopia?
It depends on your natural lens more than your age. If the lens is still clear, presbyopic LASIK or LASEK is usually the first route to consider. If a cataract is starting, lens surgery usually makes more sense, because it treats both at once.
Is presbyopia lens surgery priced per eye?
Yes. Lens prices on our list are per eye, so for both eyes you double the lens figure. Presbyopic LASIK and LASEK prices are for both eyes.
What age is presbyopic LASIK for?
It's typically considered for people in their 40s and 50s whose natural lens is still clear. Age alone doesn't decide it; the exam does.
Will I still need reading glasses after presbyopia surgery?
Many people need them less, but I can't promise you'll never use them. How much near vision you gain depends on the route, the lens and your eyes, and results vary between people.
Do foreigners pay more for presbyopia surgery in Korea?
No. International patients pay exactly what Korean patients pay, with no foreigner surcharge.
