Planning LASIK on a short trip and worried the Korea LASIK recovery cost (extra nights, check-ups, drops, days off work) will outgrow your budget? Read this before you book the hotel. You'll know what reviews get right and wrong about recovery, how the methods differ in days and aftercare, and what decides the cost for your eyes, so you can choose a plan that fits your prescription and your leave.
Hello, I'm Dr. Kim Sun-young, Medical Director at Healing Eye Clinic in Gangnam, and my field is cornea, glaucoma and cataract. Here one dedicated doctor stays with you from the exam through surgery and aftercare, international patients pay exactly what Korean patients pay, and English interpreters work on site, one minute's walk from Sinnonhyeon Station.
Many travel budgets price the operation and guess the rest, yet the recovery is what sets how many nights, visits and days off the trip needs.
The Korea LASIK recovery cost comes down to the method your exam points to, how many days you stay for check-ups, and the aftercare your eyes need. With Clear SMILE LASIK, the exam, surgery and next-day check-up can fit into two days if your results allow; LASEK needs several more days of healing.
If you're not sure where your eyes fall, send a photo of your glasses or contact lens prescription on WhatsApp and ask which methods could fit a trip of your length.
Which methods change your recovery days?
The operation itself is short with each of the laser methods below: about ten minutes for both eyes. What differs is the healing, and healing is what you pay for in hotel nights and leave.
Clear SMILE LASIK removes a thin, lens-shaped piece of tissue inside the cornea through one small incision. The plan is exam in the morning, surgery in the afternoon and a check-up the next day, and most people are back to daily life in one to two days.
Personal Custom LASIK adds a wavefront analysis and corneal topography to map higher-order aberrations, the small irregularities that shape glare and contrast at night. Recovery to daily life is also one to two days. The extra lies in the exam data and design work, and if your eyes show little higher-order aberration, standard correction can do the job on its own.
Perfect Healing LASEK works on the corneal surface, which suits thin corneas and people with contact sports or physical jobs. The surface layer has to grow back, so its recovery care runs three to five days, and those first days are usually less comfortable than after LASIK.
If you had LASIK or LASEK elsewhere and your vision has drifted, revision is its own case. The length of treatment is decided after a detailed exam, and recovery varies.
| Method | Recovery | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Clear SMILE LASIK | Daily life in 1–2 days, check-up the next day | Two days can work if the exam allows; 2–3 days is the relaxed plan |
| Personal Custom LASIK | Daily life in 1–2 days | More exam and design work, worth it only if aberrations call for it |
| Perfect Healing LASEK | 3–5 days of recovery care | More nights in Seoul and more days off |
| LASIK/LASEK Revision | Varies by case | Length set after a detailed exam |
What decides the Korea LASIK recovery cost for your eyes?
Five things move the total, and only the first is the surgery.
The method. Your corneal thickness, topography, prescription and tear film decide which methods are safe for you, and each method carries its own price and its own number of recovery days. For a short trip, corneal thickness is the number I care about most, because it decides whether a two-day plan is on the table at all.
The detailed exam. The pre-op exam is charged separately from the surgery, and the exact cost is confirmed in a one-to-one consultation after that exam. Put it in your budget from the start.
Nights and leave. A two-day Clear SMILE plan and a LASEK plan with several days of recovery care are different trips before any surgery fee is counted. We have a partner hotel, the O'Cloud Hotel in Seocho-gu, if you'd rather not search for one yourself.
Extras your eyes may or may not need. Our price list includes items such as corneal cross-linking and autologous serum drops. Ask whether your plan includes any of them and what each one is for.
Follow-up once you're home. For patients coming from overseas, we keep following progress by video call or messenger after the flight home. What to set aside separately is a visit to a local ophthalmologist, in case something needs to be looked at in person.
Local and international patients pay the same prices here. To get the figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what the method, exam and stay would come to together for your eyes.

Your days in Seoul, mapped to our hours
The clinic is about 70 minutes from Incheon Airport. We're open Monday to Thursday 10:00–18:30, Friday until 21:00 and Saturday 10:00–14:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and we're closed on Sundays and public holidays.
That last line matters for a two-day plan. A Friday exam and surgery with a Saturday-morning check-up fits inside those hours. A Saturday surgery would put the next-day check-up on a closed Sunday, which pushes it to Monday and adds a night. Confirm the exact slots and your length of stay in consultation before you book flights.
After Clear SMILE LASIK, the days usually look like this. On surgery day, vision starts recovering right away, with some foreign-body feeling or light sensitivity. Day one is the first check-up, and indoor activities are fine. By days two and three vision is mostly stable and light outings are fine. Most routines are back within the first week, and vision and cornea enter a stable phase around one month.
Plan your downtime around that. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's patient guidance on LASIK asks people to avoid swimming and hot tubs for the first couple of weeks and to keep creams and makeup away from the eyes, so a spa day or beach stop after surgery is money spent on something you can't use. There's more on what you can do each day in LASIK recovery time in Korea.
What do LASIK reviews get right about recovery, and what do they miss?
Review threads about LASIK in Korea repeat a handful of claims. Some hold up.
“Back at my laptop the next day.” For many people after LASIK-type surgery, daily life does return in a day or two. What reviews skip is that dryness and fluctuating vision in the first weeks are common, so a ten-hour screen day right after can feel harder than the review suggests. If your job is screen-heavy, read LASIK and dry eye risk and plan a lighter first week.
“LASEK hurts for days.” Partly true. The first few days after surface treatment are usually more uncomfortable than after LASIK, then it settles as the surface heals. That's a reason to plan more days, and no reason to rule LASEK out if your cornea needs it.
“The quote covered everything.” Quotes differ in what they include, so ask. At Healing Eye, the detailed exam is charged separately and the final figure is confirmed after it.
“Foreigners get charged more.” At Healing Eye, the same prices apply to local and international patients.
Say you have a long weekend and minus 4 in both eyes
Say you're 26, teaching English in Osaka, around -4.00 D in both eyes, with a Friday off and a Monday flight back.
If your corneal thickness and topography come back normal and your tear film is healthy, a Clear SMILE plan fits that weekend: exam and surgery on Friday, check-up on Saturday morning, a quiet Sunday. Whether you're ready to fly is something to confirm at the check-up.
If the cornea turns out thin for your correction, LASEK becomes the safer conversation, and then the weekend is too short. With three to five days of recovery care, I'd rather you move the trip to a week when you can take more days off than squeeze it in. If the prescription is high as well, lens-based options come up, which is a different procedure with a different budget; Korean LASIK alternatives covers that path.
And if you rarely drive at night and your aberration map is low, custom design adds work without adding much for you.
Who should wait, and what can go wrong after you fly home
Risks and side effects to know
The common reactions are temporary. A foreign-body feeling and light sensitivity on surgery day are expected, and dryness, glare or halos at night in the first weeks are common and usually ease as the eye heals, as the American Academy of Ophthalmology describes. After LASEK, the first several days carry more discomfort.
Some eyes should wait. That includes a prescription that's still changing, severe dry eye, progressing keratoconus, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and a cornea that's too thin for the correction; the FDA lists similar reasons in its guidance on when LASIK may not be for you. Lens implants avoid reshaping the cornea, but as surgery inside the eye they carry their own risks, such as raised eye pressure or cataract over time. How each eye heals differs from person to person.
If something feels wrong after you're home, such as sudden pain, worsening vision, increasing redness or discharge, see a local ophthalmologist promptly and message us. Keep using your drops as instructed and don't rub your eyes. Our Korean site lists post-op precautions, and is LASIK in Korea safe covers the numbers to check before you go.
What should you send first?
Send your travel dates and how many days off you can take, and ask what your case would cost with the exam and the stay included. When you come in, I'll go through your exam results with you and an interpreter in English, then recommend the method that fits your eyes and the days you have.
Frequently asked questions
Is the pre-op exam part of the surgery price?
No. At Healing Eye the detailed pre-op exam is charged separately, and the exact cost of your surgery is confirmed in a one-to-one consultation after that exam.
Do international patients pay more than Korean patients?
No. All prices apply equally to local and international patients.
Can Clear SMILE LASIK really fit into two days?
If your exam results allow it, the exam, surgery and next-day check-up fit into two days. Exam results can change the plan, and 2–3 days makes a more relaxed trip. Since we're closed on Sundays and holidays, confirm your length of stay in consultation before choosing dates.
Why would LASEK mean a longer stay?
LASEK treats the corneal surface, which then has to heal. Its recovery care runs three to five days, and the first days are usually less comfortable than after LASIK, so you'll need more nights and more days off. Confirm your length of stay in consultation.
I had LASIK elsewhere and my vision drifted. What sets the cost of a revision?
It depends on why your vision changed and how much cornea is left, so the treatment and its length are decided after a detailed exam, and recovery varies by case. Healing Eye runs a dedicated LASIK/LASEK revision center.
